Journey to Excellence

Re-Elect Malcolm Thomas
Superintendent of Schools
Escambia School District

On January 30th, Malcolm Thomas submitted the necessary forms to open a re-election campaign.

Thank you so much for your help in the 2008 campaign. Many positive changes have occurred in the Escambia school system during the past 3 years. Many employees and leaders have contributed to the successes. As Superintendent since 2008, I have had the privilege of working with a strong School Board and thousands of dedicated employees. Our combined efforts have moved the district forward in our journey to excellence.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Students, parents, teachers, administrators and employees have made Escambia County School District better since 2008

Together we have created

Better achievement:

  • Improved school grades (96% of schools earned a 'C' or higher in 2011)
  • Eliminated 'F' schools
  • Increased students in dual enrollment and advanced placement courses
  • Expanded Career Academies - now 55 in middle and high schools
  • Initiated district turn around at Warrington Middle

Better Discipline:

  • Instituted in-school suspension
  • Created alternative placements in lieu of expulsion
  • Reduced out-of-school suspension by 50%
  • Established school-wide behavior plans
  • Implemented a comprehensive district-wide drug plan

Better Transparency:

  • Introduced web streaming for School Board meetings
  • Began posting all Board agenda items on district web site
  • Provided financial data on the district web site
  • Posted to Superintendent web site annual State of Division reports
  • Improved schools' web presence
  • Utilized surveys and focus groups to gather feedback from stakeholders
  • Managed budget cuts through clear and open communication with leaders

So, we celebrate our milestones, but we have not reached the destination on our journey to excellence. We must strive to do even better. Together, we can move “On to Excellence.” I truly appreciate all you do.

2012 Petition Drive

We are gearing up for the 2012 election, and we will need your help AGAIN!  Approximately 200 people are needed to distribute and return petition cards.  Petition cards will be organized in bundles of 10 and 20 and will include instructions for completion.  With enough people helping, no one will need to take more than 20 cards: “Many hands make light work.”  If, however, you are part of a large organization and can get more than 20 cards completed, we do not want to discourage you.  Any registered Escambia County voter, regardless of party affiliation, may complete a petition card.

Pick up petition cards on February 7.
